Introducing the newest Heilmann...

Sophie Elma

Here is her story.

On August 16, 2012, at 4am, I went into the hospital for a scheduled induction.  Given my track record for babies and the fact that I had been dilated 4cm for a few weeks and effaced 60%, my doctor "ok'd" the induction even though I wasn't due until the 23rd.  That was ok with me too! No pain = happy momma!

Once I was admitted and dressed in the lovely gown, I was hooked up to an IV and monitors for the baby.  Soon after that, I requested to have an epidural. Oh how I love those! That was at about 7:15am. Now it was the waiting game. I had been contracting since the day before but nothing painful. Just a bit more uncomfortable this time around (before the epidural that is).

At about 7:30, my doctor came in and broke my water. I'd hoped that that would move things along. And while it did, it wasn't as fast as I thought. (I was basing that from my experience with Ellie. But all babies are different, as they say.) At this point I was about 5cm. It wasn't until 9:25 when I was checked again and was 7cm. Things were slowly getting there.  Oh boy was I getting hungry at this point! The apple juice that the nurse brought me was soooo yummy! I could have drank a gallon of that stuff!

More waiting now. Though not as much. At 10:15 they checked me again and I was 8-9cm! Yay! Soooo close now! This is also when baby girls heart rate dropped a bit. They put oxygen on me and changed my position. That brought her heart rate back up....whew!

My doctor came in about 11 and I was fully dilated. Time to get this show on! My doctor informed the nurses that he had to run down to triage for a moment and to slowly prep me/the room for delivery when he returned. No more than 2 minutes after he left, baby girls heart rate dropped again. The nurse immediately got on her phone to reach my doctor and put the oxygen back on me and changed my position. Another nurse/doctor came in and I could tell from their conversation that they needed to get baby out quick. It was scary. Luckily my doctor was able to run back up to the room in time. (he joked about getting his workout in early that day).  At 11:24am, Sophie Elma came into the world.  Though at the time, she didnt officially have that name.
She kinda just chilled there after they put her on me.

I got to snuggle with her for a good while after that...to warm her up.

Shes here!!

first thing Evey wanted to do was hold her. how cute!

Ellie's turn

Sophie is such a good baby! She sleeps a ton! I don't remember the other two ever sleeping this much. And she's growing like a weed! At her 2wk appt, she weighed in at 9Ibs 12oz. It seems the more kids you have, the faster each one grows. Maybe its just I'm the most aware now of things, unlike with Evey where everything was new and Ellie some things new.

I love having Sophie here, apart of our family.
